Nuffield Health is the UKs second largest gym provider with over one hundred sites. Providing some of the best quality video content around fitness and wellbeing is a key strategic brand goal over the coming years. It was this objective that led us to produce a series of nearly one hundred simple exercise tutorials, that could be done in the gym or at home.
As well as being a gym provider, Nuffield also employ thousands of Personal Trainers. Tapping into that wealth of knowledge, we built a priority list of some of the most popular and useful exercises that people commonly perform wrong. Rather than using actors, we also felt it more authentic to test out the acting and presenting abilities of some of Nuffield’s finest fitness buffs.
The main challenge on this project was the tight filming times. We only had two days to film around fifty exercises in detail all of which required unique moves and pieces of equipment. In order to get it done, I chose to do a two-camera shoot, with one static and one roaming. This meant that we would have plenty of extra footage to cut to if the presenters fluffed their lines and we wouldn’t tire them out having to repeat movements. Using a 3-Axis gimbal was also essential as smooth clear shots reduced bad takes and were required to accurately demonstrate the movements.
This has been one of Nuffield’s signature series of content and, in partnership with Microsoft, these exercises have been viewed over 40,000 times. Work still must be done to promote these on the gym floor however, this is on the horizon.
